Vitablend: a young, ambitious and growing company
Vitablend was established in 2001 by six entrepreneurials with specific technical expertise in the food industry. Today, our team consists of more than 50 experts who are fully dedicated and committed to deliver results for our customers.
Our state of the art production facility is located in Wolvega, The Netherlands. End 2012 a second production location will be operational in Singapore.
Since 2008 Vitablend is part of the Barentz Group. This broadens our entrance to worldwide suppliers of food ingredients. Barentz is a distributor in the food industry since 1953 and has a leading position within Europe with 26 offices.
We know the ingredient suppliers, food producers, production processes, the market, legislation developments worldwide and share this information through our international offices.
We have a flexible and fast approach to our business with focus on quality and offering tailor-made solutions.

Our Lean Journey
The Lean Way for Vitablend!
The philosophy of Lean Managements began in Japan. Toyota is the company which invented Lean Management as we know it today. Even before WW-II, Henry Ford already knew how he could build cars cost efficient.
The philosophy of Lean is based on four P’s, described by Prof. dr. Jeffrey Liker, a well-known researcher of Lean Management and writer of The Toyota Way and The Toyota Way field book. The four P’s stands for: long term Philosophy, Production System, People & Partners and Problem Solving.
Vitablend has started their Lean Way in 2013. It began with the long term Philosophy, our Vitablend Performance System, represented by the Vitablend House.
The foundation of our house is our core values: Passionate, Reliable, Collaborative with Integrity. Without this foundation we are not able to build our organisation which will lead us to our Mission and Vision. The foundation of a house is needed for further construction of the House, which are the floors.
These floors represent our tools, FMS/LIMS, Centre of Excellence, Dry Clean Room, Company Manual and last but not least Empowered Teams. Together with the foundation and the floors we can start building our walls.
Walls or pillars
These walls represent the processes we will use to achieve our vision. These processes can be divided into two areas; Flexibility and Excellent Operations. To become more flexible we will develop our operators into all-round operators. Our production process is organized in ‘Make To Order’ and most important we will shorten our lead times continuously by removing non value added activities. The other ‘pillar’ in our House is Excellent Operations. The processes we need to achieve in this pillar are Safety first, Zero Defects, External Integration (again one of the four P’s!) and Lean Operations. For this we will use the tools of the Toyota Production System, again one of the four P’s.
During the first steps of our Lean Way, we have increased the output with 47% of our Fortification production Line, and 25% of our Food Solutions production Line. Furthermore, we have decreased Inventory Levels with 30%
The exposure of our Vitablend House is still too abstract to use on the shopfloor. Yearly deduction of the policy statements is done via the X Matrix, a Lean Tool which purpose is to create clear and SMART formulated Long Term targets as well as Yearly goals for the departments. This combined with a clear Review Structure will guide us towards our Mission and Vision.
This whole program is called Hoshin in Japanese, you might like to call it Policy Deployment.

Since it’s foundation in 2001 we have grown:
- from 1 plant in Wolvega to 2 production locations in
Wolvega and Singapore in 2012
- from 6 employees to more than 50 employees in 2011
- from Vitamins and Minerals Premixes in 2001 to
Vitamines, Minerals, Nucleotides and Amino Acid
Premixes in 2011
- from a few Antioxidant formulations in 2001 to a wide
range of Antioxidant formulations for each application
- from European delivery in 2001 to global delivery in 2011
The next step that will determine the growth of Vitablend will be:
- Start producing Premixes and Antioxidants in Singapore end of 2012.
